Looping
I have voice matched actors from Joy Behar and Hilary Swank to Gwyneth Paltrow and Jennifer Garner. I’ve played little kids, socialites, dominatrices, old ladies, and everyone in between. My Russian language skills (thank you, Princeton Slavic Department!) have been exploited on many TV shows and movies (The Americans, For All Mankind and many more). Looping is one of my favorite VO niches. Looping demands that you use all the tools in your belt under pressure and at a moment's notice.

Looping, also known as ADR or “Automatic Dialogue Replacement”, is voice over that is recorded when a film or TV show is in post-production. Loop groups are comprised of 6-10 actors who excel at improvisation, multiple characterizations, mimicry, accents and foreign languages. When doing “group”, we are called up to the sound stage to watch a scene and improvise dialogue for the background actors who can be seen in the shot. We are asked to “match the flaps” or lip movements of those background actors and put (not too interesting) words in their mouths. This muted background dialogue is called “walla” and is used to sweeten the mix and make it sound more realistic.
Oftentimes we are asked to do “specifics” or a bit of featured ADR – the other end of a telephone call, a voicemail message, a train announcement or other featured call-outs. Sometimes we are asked to replace dialogue of a principal performer and voice match them.
